Ethnic violence claims 24 lives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – At least 24 people were killed in overnight clashes between rival ethnic factions in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi, media reported Sunday.

The violence pitted the majority Urdu-speaking population, which migrated from India after creation of Pakistan in 1947, and Pashto-speaking people who have moved from northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to work in Karachi.

Abductions of Hindu children on the rise in Sindh

ISLAMABAD – Hindu families in remote parts of Pakistan’s Sindh province are planning to relocate following an alarming rise in the number of kidnappings of Hindu children.

Ten devotees killed in Bihar stampede

PATNA – Ten people, including four women, were killed and 10 injured in a stampede at a temple in Bihar’s Banka district, police said Sunday.

Fertilizer bags seized from Chhattisgarh farmers

RAIPUR – Twentysix bags of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, which can also be used in explosives, were recovered from farmers in Chhattisgarh Saturday. The farmers found them lying unclaimed on a road, police said.
