Rights group calls for end to caning in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR – Amnesty International has called on the Malaysian government to end judicial caning, saying it was a form of torture and left thousands permanently scarred every year.

‘Merry Christmas’ banned at Philippine airport

MANILA – Immigration officers at the Philippines’ main international airport were prohibited Tuesday from wishing passengers a Merry Christmas.
